A little bit about me

Gestalt Psychotherapist Marija Schranz

M.Psych (Gest); B.Communications (Hons.)

Hi, I’m Marija Schranz (she/her).

I am a warranted Gestalt Psychotherapist (PPBM no. 345) with decades-long experience in the field of Communications and am currently undergoing further training in systemic family constellations.

Throughout my career, I have worked with non-governmental organisations, within private industry, and in government service with people from all walks of life and of different nationalities across various fields, including: migration and human rights; environmental protection; journalism and media; event management; mental health; and people development. I find that every single person has a fascinating story behind them and the potential for a thrilling journey ahead of them. I look forward to welcoming you to together discover yours!

My commitment

I have taken an oath to "remember that I remain a member of society with special obligations to all my fellow human beings". An ethical approach is paramount to me. I respect the diversity and uniqueness of each individual I meet, while remaining firmly committed to the promotion of human rights, peace, and social justice. I believe, strongly, in the beauty of humanity, and I am awed by that which emerges in the therapeutic space and it gives me hope for the future of the human race.

How

came to be

As a young child, my distinguishing feature was my freckles. I loved them and felt they were very much a part of my identity. Not so some of those around me, including my beloved grandmother (from whom I had inherited them, incidentally) who encouraged me to scrub my face with a lemon to get rid of them!

But back then, I embraced what to others were my imperfections, recognising them as an integral part of myself, unshakeable in my love of them. I welcomed them into my soul.

An English saying warns us that a leopard can’t change its spots - but what if those spots are simply a sign of our humanity? What if they are a beacon that reminds us of who we are? What if they are a gentle prompt that it is in our ‘imperfections’ that we become most human? What if accepting them, truly understanding them, and engaging with them we can arrive at a deeper appreciation of who we are and of how we want to be?

And so, I invite you to connect with your freckles, whatever they may be, and to embrace this journey of discovery, trusting that together, our souls will flourish into their true selves.
